National Microgravity Research Programme

by

Indian Space Research Organisation

The primary goal of the microgravity research                                             programme is to develop better understanding and where                                  opportunity permits, generate new knowledge about the processes taking                place around us by performing experiments under the microgravity conditions.    Further, one likes to use this knowledge to develop new technologies or improving the existing technologies for the betterment of human life. The programme also should highlight the importance and uniqueness of the space and aim at developing human resources and interests in understanding and utilizing the space.

To promote research in all the aspects of utilisation of microgravity, Indian Space Research Organisation has initiated a National Microgravity Programme. The programme will support research proposal for ground-based experiments, modelling and proof of concept    experiments with potential for space-based experiments. Two             space platforms will          be available for Indian researchers in near future. These are                      balloon                drops and Satellite re-entry vehicles.

National Microgravity Research Programme Office has been set up in the                            Department of Metallurgy, Indian Institute of Science,                                                             Bangalore and Prof. K. Chattopadhyay is the                                                                            Programme Coordinator.
